What could possibly be a more personalized baby gift than a homemade baby gift basket? One way to make it special is by selecting baby gifts specifically for the new bundle of joy. This is a beautiful and useful gift for a baby shower, christening, or to take with you when you go to visit the precious new baby. A baby gift basket overflowing with beautiful and functional baby things that will be appreciated by the new parents.

The ideal baby gift basket would be attractive as well as functional. In order to create your ideal gift basket, it’s a good idea to do a little planning first. Would you prefer to make your gift basket with baby gifts that indicate a special baby theme or color? If the gift basket is for a baby shower gift and you don’t know the gender of the baby, select a white wicker basket as the container. The new mommy will find many uses for this type of container.

To create a baby gift basket using a wicker basket as the container begin the assembly process by placing a large package of disposable diapers, a container of baby wipes, a baby blanket or quilt, receiving blankets, crib sheets, a baby pillow, or baby bath towels in the bottom of the basket. Place smaller baby gifts, rattles, and plush toys on the top to give your finished gift basket a decorative look.

Another useful container is a baby tote bag. Place larger items in the bottom and more decorative gifts sticking out the top of the tote bag. Instead of zipping the tote bag closed, roll pretty receiving blankets, crib sheets, or baby bath towels and place them into the bag so they stick out the top. Place cute little rattles, plush toys, or other small baby gifts between the rolled items. Include a gift for the new mommy — a scented candle, bath salts, or body lotion.

A baby bath theme makes a useful and practical gift. It’s a great idea for a baby shower gift when you are unsure of the baby’s gender. Choose an infant bath tub or bath seat, line it with a hooded bath towel and baby wash cloths or a hooded bath robe. Include bath toys or necessities such as baby soap, tearless shampoo, bubble bath, a hair brush, and comb. Don’t forget the rubber ducky!

If you prefer to create a baby gift basket that is more unusual, a baby book theme is a nice idea. For a more professional look, place pastel pink, blue, or yellow purchased shred in a wicker basket; this will also help you place the gift items so that they stay in place. Add soft baby books, timeless classics, and a couple of more contemporary books — Sesame Street, Barney, or Blue’s Clues. Include soft baby blocks, a CD of lullabies, or a Baby Einstein DVD. A nice touch is to add a baby theme photo frame or a “brag book” for the new parents.

Tips For Making A Baby Gift Basket:

Wrap some of the gifts in tissue paper and tie with thin satin ribbon before placing in the gift basket.

Choose items that are safe for babies. Bath products should be gentle and tearless. Sleepwear should be flame retardant. All toys should have suggested ages.

Ideally, your finished baby gift basket will appear to be overflowing with gifts, so keep that in mind when you choose a container. Fill in empty spaces with purchased shred.

Clorox Anywhere spray is the BEST, it’s color-free(won’t bleach anything) , and is completely safe to use around kids, and pets. I use it on everything, and it’s really nice to just give a quick spray down on my kid’s toys, especially their little play food that is ALWAYS in the mouth. I clean them about once every few weeks.

How do I get toy marks off my baby doll’s head?

The toy marks when a toy rubs against another or scratches. My doll’s head has black marks that won’t wash off or go away. I’m using acne medicine that I saw another woman use, but it’s not working. Please help!

Eek, wash off the acne cream!
It does work in conjunction with sunfading.. Basically, you put on the acne cream, cover over the unmarked areas to protect them and then let it sit in the sun for weeks.
The drawback? Sometimes the acne cream keeps fading for a LOT longer then you want it to. I have a my little pony I bought on Ebay that someone used acne cream on. When I got her, she looked lovely and mark free. Now, about 6 months later, she has a huge faded blotch on her. Sure enough, the previous owner used acne cream to remove a small pen mark and it’s still fading where it was used..
I use a “Magic Eraser” I believe they are made by Mr Clean. They are sold in small boxes with a couple sponges in each one for a few dollars. Basically, if a mark doesn’t come off with Magic Eraser, then it’s not going to come off.
Be careful around any painted surfaces though! Generally the skintone of most plastic doll is from dyed plastic. However, things like blush, freckles, eyes and lipstick are painted on later. Those things will rub off if you rub them with a magic eraser.

With the stock market performing so poorly this year, many people who have no experience are getting interested in learning about stocks. They have probably heard that is good to buy stocks when they are low and sell them when they are high. Once a beginner learns how to buy a stock, the next step is to try to figure out what stocks to buy. Where does one get that kind of information or opinion? You can get stock pics almost everywhere including magazines, TV shows, radio shows, The Internet and probably many other places as well. One thing is for sure, there is no shortage of opinions.

If you watch the financial TV shows, you will often see segments with the top analysts or “experts” where they give their stock tips. These experts might be asked to analyze certain stocks or to give their own stock pics. It seems to me that most of the time these so called stock market gurus are positive about most stocks. There are exeptions but rarely do you find an analyst come on and say that he would not be buying any stock and that now is not the time to invest.

These stock analysts are often the representatives for their company that the public sees and so they don’t want to be negative. It is so much harder to drum up business with a negative outlook than it is if you have a positive rosy outlook. It seems to me that these analysts are told to go out there and paint the most positive picture you can about the market. For example, “the market might be bad right now but it will turn around and these are the stocks you want to own when it does”.

Learning how to do some of your own research and not listen exclusively to the experts is perhaps the hardest part of investing. If you are going to do things right, you do need to learn how to form your own opinions and research stocks on your own. If you buy every stock a guru says is a winner, you will soon find that they aren’t right much more than someone who picks stocks by throwing darts.

If you are a beginner looking to buy stocks and learn, it is wise advice to proceed slowly and not believe everything you hear. These stock analysts are professional salesman and can make the worst stock in the world look like a screaming buy. It is your money and not theirs so be careful with it.

What can I give the dad-to-be at a couples baby shower?

I’m throwing a baby shower for my brother and his wife. It’s a couples shower. I’m buying some lotions and stuff for the mom-to-be from burts bees baby line, since I know she’d like it. But I would like to get my brother something too, that he will appreciate. I don’t want it to be something really expensive because we are already spending a lot on the shower. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My husband (a new dad) received the book Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads by Gary Greenburg. It’s a useful and humorous book. He’s enjoyed reading it, so I would recommend it or a similar daddy guidebook.

Another suggestion, a children’s book (or books) that your brother enjoyed. That way, he can read it to the new baby.

How concerned should you be bringing your baby to playdates where all the kids share toys?

and put the toys in their mouths? i dont want to be over paranoid and shelter him but I’m just grossed out. and how do you handle other kids taking your babies toys..and dont want to seem selfish but I’m afraid I won’t see them again

This is kind of a tough question since you definitely don’t want to offend the other parent(s), with whom you setup the playdates with.

I’m not sure about just how bad it is bacteria-wise, but the best thing I can say is to clean the toys before & after use.

Try bringing toys that aren’t furry or soft, as these things would probably collect more saliva and schmutz on them.

Perhaps plastic toys would help?
